IJU demands probe into Bihar scribe’s murder, release of detained women journ alists

Hyderabad, 15 Novem ber 2021: Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expresses shock over the brutal murder of a young scribe in Bihar and demands a thorough probe into the i ncident that led to the untimely demise of Buddhinath Jha. The national union of scribes also raised voices for im mediate release of two detained women jou rnal ists by the Tripura government in Agartala.

The 22 years old Madhubani-based scribe and a Right to lnfonnation activist was found dead on 12 Novem ber after he  went  missing  for  some  days. He v..as initially offered som e money by the illegal clinic owners, but when he did not respond, they started threatening him of dire consequence.

Meanwhile, Two Delhi-based reporters namely Samriddh i Sakunia and  Swama Jha were detained by Assam police in Karimganj  local ity following the request of Tripura pol ice. Associated with a news-portal , both the reporters came to Tripura for covering the recent communal viu lt:rn.:t: in the Bangladesh borderi ng State and they were leaving Agartala by road on Sunday  planning  to  reach Silchar  of Assam.

“We warned in an earl ier occasion also that the Tripura government was intimidating a number of social media users including journa lists under the stringent Unlawful Activities ( Prevention) Act. But slapping brutal laws against the opposition voices wi ll not serve the purpose and it v.ou ld only aggravate the situation ,” said lJU president K.  Sreenivas  Reddy  and  secretary  general Bal winder Singh Jammu. Earl ier I 02 i ndividuals were booked under UAPA.
