KJU Leader Vikraman Passes Away
He always fought for protecting good Journalism. He was in the forefront to protect freedom of press and was known for his credible and ethic Journalism. U. Vikraman (66), President of Kerala Journalist Union (KJU) and National Executive Committee member of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) passed away due to cardiac arrest at his home at Thiruvanathpuram, Kerala on September 21. He is survived by wife Seetha Vikraman and son Sandeep. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, several ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior journalists paid homage to the veteran journalist leader. In a condolence message The Chief Minister described Vikraman as a Journalist who always protected the credibility and integrity of Journalism as a profession. He has a clean image and led a simple life throughout, the CM said.
Vikraman was the Coordinating Editor of Janayugom daily and Member of the Editorial Board of Navayugom weekly. Several ministers including The Ministers Education and Labour Minister V. Sivankutty, Minister for Agriculture P. Prasad, Revenue Minister K. Rajan and Minister forDairy Development Chinchu Rani visited Vikraman’s house to pay last respects.
IJU leaders including President K. Sreenivas Reddy, Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu, former Presidents S.N. Sinha, D. Amar and others condoled the death of Vikraman. IJU Vice President Prabhakaran and KJU General Secretary A. K. Surendran and others visited the house and consoled family members. A condolence meeting was held at Thiruvananthapuram by KJU which was addressed by Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G.R. Anil, Deputy Mayor P.K. Raju and leaders of various political parties and senior journalists.
